Adjusting to new norms can seem daunting, but we are here to help make that transition easier. Here are a few wellness tips to get you through uncertain times.
Create a Routine
Taking control of your day can give you a sense of purpose and control. Try and create a routine by sticking to a set wake up time and bedtime. Typically, finding time in the mornings to focus on yourself or express gratitude can be difficult. Many people have newfound free time. Rather than dwelling on all of the factors that are outside of your control, focus on what is within your control! Get into the habit of starting your day in a way that makes you happy, like a plant basking in the sunlight. Make yourself a delicious breakfast, have some coffee and read a book, or do some morning stretches. Now is the time to implement whatever makes you feel good into your morning routine.
Focus on Your Mind and Body
While sticking to a routine is important, it is also important to be aware of what kinds of activities are in your daily routine. Try to incorporate something for both your mind and body into your every day routine. Moving around for at least 30 minutes a day has the potential to increase both your energy and mood. Whether this is in the form of a walk, an at home yoga video, or even some morning stretches, moving your body releases endorphins which combat stress. It’s also important to exercise your mind. No, this doesn’t mean you have to sit down and do math problems (unless that’s your thing!) but it does mean you should do something mentally stimulating. Read a book, play a game of chess, do a crossword, or whatever you find enjoyable.
Dive into a Hobby
Tuning into old and new hobbies during this time can not only improve your mindset, but also your mental health. Perhaps that new hobby can be experimenting with your at-home garden. Since Sunny Cultivation is a USDA licensed and registered medical cannabis seed merchant, you can rest assured that you are getting top quality, certified and verified cannabis seeds to grow. On the website, you are able to see what seeds we have available according to what strain they belong to. We have sativas, indicas, and hybrids. Sativa strains typically produce increased energy and euphoria, which can really help with anxiety and stress. Indica strains are well-known for relaxation, but the relaxation associated with indicas results in more of a body relaxation than a mental relaxation. If you are looking for feelings of euphoria paired with a body high, a hybrid is the way to go. For more information about what strain would fit you, check out our educational article, What Strain are You?
The hybrids on our site specify the percentage of sativa and indica that go into the chemical compound of the hybrid strain. You can also see how much CBD the strain contains. CBD was sold legally before marijuana was legalized due to its beneficial properties regarding stress and pain management. Chemdawg is our hybrid strain with the highest CBD content. It contains 1.5 percent CBD compared to other hybrids–like Blue Dream–which only contains 0.2 percent CBD. For combatting feelings of anxiety, a CBD heavy strain is the way to go.
According to a study entitled “Cannabinoids and Anxiety” conducted by Richard E. Musty, “In a laboratory setting, when subjects were instructed to smoke marijuana until they reached their ‘usual’ level of intoxication, regression analysis of a visual analog scale of the word ‘anxious’ predicted decreased scores on this scale. These data support the hypothesis that THC has anxiolytic properties at low doses.” In other words, the study showed that marijuana decreases anxiety when smoked responsibly and at low doses. Furthermore, the study found that when subjects of the study were given CBD to ingest, “anxiety decreased significantly by 60 and 75 min, when orally administered doses of CBD are known to be at peak blood levels” (2006).
