The Journal of Adolescent Health published data. The data showed that young adults decreased their use of alcohol, cigarettes and pain medication when they had access to legal medical cannabis. This study covered a 6 year period, 2014 through 2019, and published in May, 2022. Researchers used regression models to analyze the 6 annual waves of surveys of young people aged 18 to 25. The University of Washington conducted the study and published in the Journal of Adolescent Health. They found that the use of alcohol, cigarettes and pain medications decreased after the legalization of marijuana. NORML reported on this article. Decreased drug use is Trend
This continues a trend found in medical cannabis research. Legal marijuana use clearly shows continued decreased drug use by young adults. Drug use decreased but we don’t know why. I speculate that young adults know that there are little to no negative side effects from marijuana. And everyone knows that alcohol, cigarettes and pain medications have several severe side effects. The worst side effect from using marijuana is eating too much pizza and ice cream. Marijuana has many medical benefits. Medical cannabis reduces inflammation. Inflammation is the cause of most human ailments. Reduce inflammation, reduce ailments. People know this. More research is needed to show correlation of medical marijuana and medical benefits.
